Plain-English definitions of the performance, telemetry and O&M terms used across the Enlyra platform and our field notes.

Performance Ratio (PR)

Performance Ratio is the ratio of a plant's actual energy yield to its theoretically possible yield given the irradiance it received. It normalises generation for weather, making plants of different sizes and locations comparable. Enlyra computes PR deterministically from normalised datasets and reconciles it against contracted IEC 61724 methodology.

Loss Attribution

Loss attribution decomposes the gap between expected and actual generation into named, quantified buckets — curtailment, soiling, inverter downtime, MPPT loss, low irradiance and inverter underperformance. Each bucket is tied to a device, a time window and a financial value at the contracted tariff, so operators know exactly which lost kWh are recoverable.

Curtailment

Curtailment is the deliberate reduction of a plant's power output, usually imposed by the grid operator to balance supply and demand or respect network limits. Curtailed energy is a loss that is not the plant's fault. Enlyra isolates curtailment at the export meter against allowed export so it is not mistaken for underperformance.

SCADA

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is the control-system layer that monitors and controls plant equipment in real time. In solar, SCADA collects telemetry from inverters, meters and weather stations. Enlyra ingests SCADA-grade telemetry and adds deterministic analytics and AI diagnostics on top.

MQTT

MQTT is a lightweight publish/subscribe messaging protocol designed for constrained devices and low-bandwidth networks, widely used in IoT and increasingly in solar telemetry. Enlyra's Edge Devices and PC Clients ship telemetry to the platform over MQTT with offline replay and topic ACLs.

Modbus TCP/RTU

Modbus is an industrial communication protocol used to read registers from devices like inverters, meters and weather stations; RTU runs over serial lines while TCP runs over Ethernet. Enlyra maps device registers via an editable Modbus catalogue and bridges them to the platform through its Edge Devices.

MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking)

MPPT is the inverter function that continuously adjusts the operating voltage of a PV array to extract the maximum available power as irradiance and temperature change. MPPT loss occurs when the inverter fails to hold the optimal point, which Enlyra detects as DC-to-AC efficiency drift against the inverter datasheet curve.

POA Irradiance (Plane of Array)

Plane-of-array irradiance is the solar irradiance measured in the same plane as the PV modules, in W/m². It is the correct input for expected-generation modelling because it reflects what the panels actually receive after tilt and orientation. Enlyra uses POA irradiance for its Expected Generation engine.

IEC 61724

IEC 61724 is the international standard for photovoltaic system performance monitoring, defining how to measure and report metrics like Performance Ratio. Compliance ensures PR figures are computed consistently and are defensible in EPC and IPP contracts. Enlyra reconciles its PR calculations against IEC 61724 methodology.

C&I Solar (Commercial & Industrial)

C&I solar refers to commercial and industrial installations — typically rooftop or behind-the-meter systems for factories, warehouses and businesses — as distinct from utility-scale farms. These plants prioritise self-consumption and bill savings. Enlyra supports C&I rooftop plants alongside utility-scale portfolios.

IPP (Independent Power Producer)

An Independent Power Producer is a non-utility entity that owns and operates generation assets and sells the electricity, often under power purchase agreements. IPPs run portfolios of plants and need fleet-wide, tenant-isolated monitoring — a core Enlyra use case.

EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction)

EPC firms design, procure equipment for, and build solar plants, frequently handing over to an O&M provider or operating them under contract. EPCs need to prove contracted PR at handover and manage multiple client sites. Enlyra offers a dedicated EPC tenant type that manages multiple clients and plants from one login.

Inverter Availability

Inverter availability is the proportion of time an inverter is operational and able to export power, typically expressed as a percentage. Downtime directly reduces generation and is a key SLA metric. Enlyra computes time-weighted availability per inverter from heartbeat and status registers.
